A fifties science fiction movie... based on a play by William Shakespeare... with music from the rock n' roll era...
Put it all together and you have... Return To The Forbidden Planet. Shakespeare's hero of The Tempest, Prospero is abandoned on a magical island and a sailing ship is later wrecked there. The movie's Prospero and ours is launched into space and crash-lands on a far off planet where our flight, Scientific Survey Flight Nine also crashes.
Shakespeare's Ariel is a spirit of the island who always does Prospero's bidding. Ours is a robot, which usually does his bidding. Shakespeare conjures up monsters, but nothing to compare with the dangers that threaten our spaceship. We face creatures of the night, conjured by Prospero's own mind and the perils of the reverse polarity procedure. (Can you help to save us?)
And in every version Prospero has a daughter who falls in love with the captain of the ship.
Throw in some great numbers - Great Balls Of Fire, Good Vibrations, Teenager In Love and this was a show like no other.
