Synopsis

This well known Canadian story, set in the 1900s, relates the antics of orphan girl, Anne Shirley, when she mistakenly arrives in the sleepy town of Avonlea.

When farmer, Matthew Cuthbert, finds work hard on the farm, his sister, Marilla, convinces him to adopt an orphan boy to help out. To their surprise a girl arrives. At first, Marilla wants to send Anne (spelt with an 'E') back to the orphanage right away, however, Matthew and Marilla decide to let her stay.

Anne makes best friends with Diana Barry and all is well, until she comes across school heart-throb Gilbert Blythe, who, because of her red hair, calls her 'carrots,' and then the fun really begins!

Fighting all odds, Anne uses her dramatic outbursts and infectious charm to win the hearts of Matthew and Marilla as well as her classmates and local town folk.
